Today I went to a crystal shop I haven’t visited in years.
I picked up a few things for myself, but then I saw tiger’s eye and amethyst.
Immediately, I thought of you.
Not because I was trying to.
Not because I went there looking for reminders.
I just remembered those were your favorites.
So I stood there looking through the stones, and a few of them felt like they belonged in your hands more than mine.
I bought them anyway.
They’re sitting with me now.
You don’t know they exist.
You don’t know I found them.
But for a moment, in a crystal shop on an ordinary day,
I saw something beautiful,
and my first thought was that I wanted to share it with you.
Then I found a cupcake amethyst.
I’d never seen one before.
I wanted it the second I saw it.
But before I thought about taking it home, I wondered if you’d like it first.
Maybe that’s how I know I cared about you.
Even when something beautiful finds its way into my hands, part of me still wonders whether it belongs in yours.
